THE LATEST Breed Records Supplement, as always, makes for interesting reading. Schipperke registrations for 2010 were slightly down on the previous year, with just 49 registered. This low number makes our breed in the utility group the most ‘vulnerable’ for loss of CCs given the equally low entries at championship shows. The last quarter of the year had only six registrations from two litters and one importation from the Republic of Ireland. The quarterly registrations for 2010 were twenty four, ten, nine and six, indicating that a lot of people appear to like having puppies in the earlier part of the calendar year.
With the gradual decrease in the numbers of puppies in the breed it is no surprise, therefore, to see in the latest Kennel Gazette that our breed continues to be classified as a stud band A breed for next year and presumably for quite a few years to come.
