.My dog, ‘Schipdale Florence’, has qualified, as part of the Wilmslow small dog agility team, to compete in the small dog team competition in the main arena at Crufts 2011. The competition will start at 8.30am on the Saturday.

The main arena program should, like last year, be available to watch live via the crufts website.

A Rose By Any Other Name…

.A new arrival in any home, be it a baby or a new puppy always brings with it the big question… what do we call him/her?

This has happened recently to me. Let me explain…. When someone breeds a litter of puppies, Schipperkes or any other breed for that matter, the question of naming them arises. Now I have called all the Schipperkes I have bred using ‘musical’ terms or connections, as the foundation bitch was called Dancing Queen ( a song by Abba). So consequently litters have been musical terms such as K.Amoroso and K.Appasionata ( lovingly and passionately in misical terminology!) K. Crazy Diamond ( named after Sid Barret from Pink Floyd the inspiration for their song Shine On You Crazy Diamond from the Album Wish You Were Here – still one of my all time favourites!) The exception being K. Black and Bouncy being a singleton his name came from a description of his character more than anything else; he was a big and bouncing baby boy – to use a human analogy.

Cream Schipperke Komargo Dandy Warhol Meet our newest recruit. K. Dandy Warhol, name chosen because musical connection – the Dandy Warhols being a trendy American band lead singer had a flash of blonde hair (might have changed it now) and his grandfather is American.

We have had a massive debate about his name. Roland was suggested early on and he was referred to as Roland for quite a while amongst the family, but when I finally met him I knew he wasn’t a Roland at all, he was more of a little Dandy which has now been shortened to Danny. So Danny is now settling in with Arnold (border collie) and Rubin and Zeke (belgian shepherd malinois – I am not sure of the plural of malinois)

After we lost George just before Christmas I am happy to say I have my doorbell back, which is good because my daughter keeps thinking I have gone deaf as I cannot hear her knocking at the door when she comes home for lunch; the big dogs ‘know’ it is her and they cannot be bothered to tell me she is at the door.

George

.Sadly on 15th December we lost George our very special Schipperke. He will be much remembered, as despite owning a border collie and two Malinois he was the only one to let us know (by barking) if anyone was at the front door!

In his memory we are buying a doorbell and naming it after him.
