   I’ve been doing agility with my schipperke and have recently had started having some success. His last time out he came home with a 4th and 2 x firsts. He is more than capablel, but the main problem has been going off sniffing in the middle of the competition. I would love to hear from others how they have overcome schipperke traits in the agility ring.

   Hi borrberw
   my dog Pupert has just retired from agility at the age of 14. Like your dog getting him to do a round without stopping was always a problem.
   He even found out that if he poo’ed in the ring he was made to leave the ring.
   Two things that I did seemed to work. Firstly I titbitted him before he ran and immediately after his run using the most tastey of treats that I could find. Secondly there was one show where my dog was well known and the judge also knew us and our problems, half way round he stopped and I took a chance Told the jugde to turn her back grabbed Rupert by the neck and depositted him over tho ropes. Nobody questioned my actions although it was harsh handling and the judge bless her said she didn’t see it happen but he never did it again. Sometimes you have to be very firm with schips but becareful when you do take any drastic actions.
